The Tax Commissioner is elected by the voters of Decatur County for a four-year term. The Tax Commissioner is responsible for preparing the annual tax digest and the billing and collection of ad valorem taxes. These taxes include real property, personal property, motor vehicle, mobile home, intangible and timber taxes. We mail approximately 20,000 property tax bills and 3,300 mobile home bills to all city and county residents. All taxes that are collected are disbursed to the state, county, school, library and city every two weeks.
